Support

The work of the Gorée Island Archaeological Digital Repository is an important first response to the growing dilemma of the decline and destruction of irreplaceable African cultural heritage materials. These materials continue to be in danger from the triple threat of political instability, lack of resources, and the effects of time and climate. Although digital technologies offer a solution to some of these challenges, the equipment and infrastructure necessary to complete digital preservation work remains outside of the realistic budgetary allowances for many African cultural heritage institutions.

At the heart of the Gorée Island Archaeological Digital Repository lies the core values and goals of open-access, digital preservation, capacity-building, and cultural heritage conservation. We stand behind these values and the way those values are being made manifest in the work of the Gorée Island Archaeological Digital Repository project. We welcome you to stand with us by voicing your support either giving financially, donating equipment or expertise, or advocating for the project in your circles of influence.
